Membership Requirements

SAAMI Voting Membership is open to any domestic primary manufacturer producing and selling within the United States, or domestic designing firm or corporation causing to be manufactured to its basic design and selling within the United States under its own name, (a) sporting firearms or ammunition subject to the United States manufacturer’s excise tax or (b) propellants for sporting ammunition shall be eligible to become a Voting Member in the Institute. For this purpose, a domestic primary manufacturer producing and selling sporting firearms, ammunition, or propellants within the United States is a United States firm or corporation that sells within the United States a significant quantity of such products and a substantial part of such product is actually fabricated and/or assembled within the United States.

SAAMI Associate Membership is open to any domestic primary manufacturer or domestic designing firm or corporation that meets the eligibility requirements for Voting Member of the Institute, or any domestic manufacturer of a major component part of ammunition or a firearm, or a firm or corporation doing business based in the United States which is actively engaged in the design or manufacturing of silencers as defined at 18 USC Section 921(a)(4), may be admitted as an Associate Member in this Institute upon approval by two-thirds vote of the entire Board of Directors. A “major component part” means, in the case of ammunition, the cartridge case or hull, primer, propellant and projectile, and in the case of a firearm, means the barrel, cylinder, receiver, frame, complete breech mechanisms and ammunition magazine.

SAAMI Supporting Membership is open to any domestic primary manufacturer or domestic designing firm or corporation that meets the eligibility requirements of a Voting Membership; a domestic manufacturer of a major component part of ammunition or firearm; or a firm or corporation doing business based in the United States which is actively engaged in the manufacturing of muzzle loading equipment or supplies, or is a primary source thereof, or a firm or corporation doing business based in the United States which is actively engaged in the design or manufacturing of silencers as defined at 18 USC Section 921(a)(4), may be eligible to become a non-voting Supporting Member of the Institute. A “major component part” is defined under Associate Membership.

SAAMI Affiliated Membership is open to any domestic supplier of essential products or services used for the design, manufacture or testing of firearms, ammunition or propellant, including any major component part as defined under Associate Membership, such as ballistic laboratory test and measurement equipment; tool and die makers; gauge and reamer manufacturers; and ballistic testing and materials testing, may be eligible to become a non-voting Affiliate Member of the Institute.

Note: SAAMI has various membership levels with accompanying annual dues requirements. The highest levels of membership require an initiation fee.
