SAAMI to Exhibit at SHOT Show

Get to know the industry’s invaluable standards-setting organization

SHELTON, Conn. — The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute®, Inc., (SAAMI®), will for the first time have an exhibition booth at the SHOT Show®, the world’s largest trade show for shooting, hunting, outdoor and law enforcement products and services.

SAAMI is the organization at the forefront of promoting firearm safety by creating standards that ensure safety, reliability and interchangeability of firearms, ammunition and components.

From January 23-26, 2024, in Las Vegas, the SHOT Show will bring together the community of firearm, ammunition and related products manufacturers, allowing SAAMI representatives to remind industry professionals of the value it delivers through its many standards and guidance resources.

“We’re exhibiting at SHOT Show to establish a more visible presence among the shooting industry,” said Brian Osowiecki, SAAMI Director of Regulatory Affairs. “Show attendees can come and talk to us, ask us questions and generally learn what SAAMI is all about and our importance to the firearm industry.”

SAAMI representatives will provide information at the booth about the resources the organization offers, such as its technical standards and publications, information on international issues affecting manufacturers and information on the transport of ammunition and components.

“We look forward to seeing our industry colleagues at SHOT Show at the first-ever SAAMI booth,” said Joe Bartozzi, SAAMI’s President and CEO. “We’re an organization that’s not as widely known as we’d like to be despite SAAMI’s significance to the extraordinary number of products our industry produces. We’d like to change that, so stop by the SAAMI booth to get to know us better.”

SAAMI Announces Ammunition Equivalency Online Resources

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute,®Inc., (SAAMI®), is pleased to announce that it has added two new web-based resources. These new documents help to clarify the interchangeability of certain ammunition in a specified firearm chamber, and identify the names of equivalent and historical cartridges.

These documents are important for firearm safety because they provide industry and recreational shooters the ability to identify what ammunition can be safely shot in firearms, whether it is an alternate cartridge in a specified firearm chamber or a known equivalent historical name for a cartridge.

“These important documents add to SAAMI’s technical library of firearm safety resources that provide guidance to both industry professionals and the firearm-owning community. They emphasize important safety and technical information regarding the proper matching of ammunition and firearms, and what precautions must be taken,” said Joe Bartozzi, SAAMI President and CEO.

Both documents were developed by the SAAMI Joint Technical Committee and can be found on the SAAMI website under Informational Publications and Advisories.

The new documents are:

  • Generally Accepted Firearms and Ammunition Interchangeability – This document lists generally accepted alternate firearm/ammunition combinations which will generally allow for the safe firing of an alternate cartridge in a specified firearm chamber. There is also information on shotshell interchangeability and commercial vs. military standards.
