SAAMI Completes Important Website Updates

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute® (SAAMI®) is pleased to announce that a comprehensive update of its website’s Glossary of Industry Terms has been completed. Compiled by SAAMI’s Technical Committee, the glossary is intended to facilitate technical interchanges between members of that committee.

“No matter what we’re doing — approving a new cartridge, working with legislatures and policy makers around the world, addressing new technologies — it is critical that we are consistent and clear in what and how we communicate,” said Rick Patterson, SAAMI’s Executive Director. “The enhancements to our glossary provide a solid foundation for satisfying that goal.”

Updating SAAMI’s Glossary of Industry Terms was a project of magnitude, one that took two years to complete. The website’s history section received a makeover at the same time. “I extend my sincere thanks to the members of the Technical Committee who dedicated their valuable time to this project,” said Patterson. “We couldn’t have asked for a more competent, knowledgeable team of professionals with whom to work.”

SAAMI Announces Acceptance of Three New Cartridges

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute® (SAAMI®), the firearms and ammunition industry’s technical standards-setting organization, is pleased to announce the acceptance of a new cartridge and chamber standard, the 350 Legend (350 LGND), introduced by Winchester Ammunition.

Winchester Logo“SAAMI member ammunition and firearm companies are driven by technological innovation.” said Randy Bimson, Director of Technical Affairs and Technical Advisor of SAAMI. “Winchester’s 350 Legend cartridge brings a fresh look and innovation to a very mature cartridge category opening up new options to both the hunter and recreational shooter. SAAMI is pleased to include the new 350 Legend in the SAAMI standards.”

Winchester Ammunition is addressing a rapidly growing market segment, “straight-wall-cartridge-compliant” deer-hunting states. A growing number of states that previously restricted deer hunting to limited-range slug guns or muzzle loading firearms are now allowing rifles chambered in straight-walled centerfire cartridges, many of which originated as handgun cartridge designs. The Winchester 350 Legend offers a significantly flatter trajectory and better terminal performance over current straight-wall cartridges while remaining compliant in most applicable states.

“The 350 Legend is a high-performing, straight-walled cartridge that dominates in velocity, energy, recoil and affordability, all of which are vital to our customers,” said Matt Campbell, vice president of sales and marketing for Winchester Ammunition. “Winchester is dedicated to innovation and it’s paramount that we continue to deliver meaningful, technology driven products that have a tremendous impact on the hunting and shooting sports industry.”

“SAAMI member companies are the leaders of firearm and ammunition development and innovation,” said Rick Patterson, SAAMI’s Executive Director. “Both the 6.5 and 300 PRC cartridges seek to meet the demand for increased accuracy in today’s trending sport of long-range shooting, and we are pleased to add these new cartridges to our SAAMI Standards.”

“Both the 6.5 PRC and the 300 PRC are multi-functional cartridges that are excellent choices for target and match shooting as well as hunting applications,” said Joe Thielen, Hornady’s Assistant Director of Engineering. “The primary focus of the design of both the 6.5 PRC and the 300 PRC has always been long-range precision shooting. These cartridges and their respective chamber designs were carefully engineered to efficiently use today’s low-drag projectiles coupled with modern propellants that provide shooters with the capability to hit targets at ever increasing distances.”
